PLUS-MOTION

PLUS-MOTION: Live Performance Art Series was a performance art event at the Point Centre for Contemporary Art in Nicosia on September 9, 2016. The series featured Dagmar I. Glausnitzer-Smith, Zierle & Carter, Francesco Kiais, and Pashias, who explored the body, movement, and materials in live performance. The event formed part of the third edition of The Marathon – Cyprus Performance Art Workshop 2016.

The concept of PLUS-MOTION draws inspiration from the Ancient Greek word συγκίνηση (syngínisi), which conveys the idea of emotional arousal or movement. In this series, each artist used their body and chosen materials as tools to create unique and often unfamiliar relationships within the live performance space. Through these actions, performers externalised inner concerns, emotions, and reflections, sharing them directly with the audience.

Each performance presented a carefully constructed situation or image shaped by the artist’s perception, aspiration, and emotional intensity. The work challenged conventional boundaries between performer and audience, pushing physical and mental limits, and blending elements of fiction and reality at the threshold of traditional definitions of performance.

The series was supported by epitelesis – Performance Art Foundation and SPACE ZONE Productions, with media sponsorship from CyBC (RIK) – Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation. Campaign coordination was provided by SLATE PRODUCTIONS – Videos, Campaigns & Events, and additional sponsorship came from the Cyprus Youth Board and the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture.

The event and workshop were documented by Pavlos Vrionides.
